Thomas Upbeat Despite Bathurst Qualifying Challenges

CXC Global Racing/CGR Performance Toyota 86 Racing Series driver Dylan Thomas says he has the pace to contend for a front-running result despite some challenges in this morning’s qualifying session.

Thomas qualified 18th after some handling issues early in the session, and traffic-affected laps at the end.

“Yesterday in practice, our car had a lot of understeer and we changed the setup overnight accordingly, but once we put new tyres on, the increased grip induced a lot of oversteer and I wasn’t able to accelerate out of the slow corners with any confidence,” Thomas said.

“We came into the pits and made a mid-session change and the car was a lot better, but once I returned to the track I was held up in traffic and wasn’t able to punch out a representative lap time.

“We know the car is competitive and with my Bathurst experience, I’m confident I can make up positions in the races.”

In his Toyota 86 Series debut, Pete Major qualified 24th.

“I made some gains after practice yesterday and was a lot more confident over the top,” Major said.

“This weekend is all about having fun and I’m certainly enjoying myself – bring on the races tomorrow!”

The other two CGR Performance-prepared cars of Tim Brook and Simon Samoilenko qualified sixth and 37th respectively.

The Toyota 86 Racing Series is back on track tomorrow at Mount Panorama, with Race 1 at 8:40am and Race 2 at 12:35pm – both races will be shown live on FOX Sports 506 while Race 2 will also be shown live on Channel 10.
